Ben Wyvis is one of the most popular Munro walks in Scotland. The paths are excellent and make the going easy. Plus, the walk includes an enjoyable ridge walk high above everything else in the rather flat area. Therefore, the views are extensive and a great reward for putting in the effort.

You start at the Ben Wyvis car park right next to the A835. On the weekends, you should arrive here rather sooner than later, especially when good weather is forecast. Many people from the hillwalking community will have the same destination as you, so it’s best to save yourself the trouble of finding alternative parking or having to change plans. Plus, when you start early, you will have the trails to yourself before the masses roll in.

Follow the path from the car park, parallel to the road. You soon cross a footbridge and pass a gate .

From there on, it’s always straight ahead. Ignore the paths that join in from the left and right occasionally and head up the path along the burn and through the forest. Eventually, you reach open moorland. The path bends slightly to the left towards An Cabar – a Munro top of the Ben Wyvis range.

Follow the path, zig-zagging your way up the slopes and crossing the steepest section . Soon after, the gradient eases, and you reach a cairn that marks the top of An Cabar .

Continue on the obvious footpath that leads along the undulating ridge of Ben Wyvis, where you reach the highest summit – Glas Leathad Mòr, eventually . After enjoying the views, the best way back is the one you’ve walked in on.
